It does look good on paper (I find it a bit gimmicky too) but the reality is quite different here. I’m pretty sure you guys treat animals much better than we do, in general. Take animal abuse more seriously, have foster homes, encourage adoption, treat them with respect and affection, train them, spend time with them playing or going on walks and things like that.
Many people “worship” dogs on this day mainly because they have to and not because they want to. So one day they’re like “All hail our precious dogs, the messengers of Yama Raj, the God of death” while completely ignoring their existence and often times even mistreating them the rest of the 364 days.
I personally would happily trade a single day of special treatment for a year of decent treatment.
