Ally McCoist believes Manchester United have found their perfect centre-forward in Edinson Cavani.
The 33-year-old joined the Red Devils on a free transfer during the summer and has been limited to mostly substitute appearances.
Cavani came to Man United’s rescue against Southampton
He stated his case for a regular place in the starting line-up with two goals and an assist in their remarkable 3-2 win against Southampton at the weekend, coming back from 2-0 down.
Anthony Martial has struggled this season and is yet to score in the Premier League and could find himself out of the starting line-up.
Cavani, who is facing a three-game ban for using a racist term on social media, may be approaching his 34th birthday but former Rangers striker McCoist believes he still has plenty left in the tank.
Anthony Martial has struggled this season
He told talkSPORT Breakfast: Looking at it, theres nothing there that doesnt tell me that Cavani is the best centre-forward at the club and by that I mean playing the position and scoring goals.
I like Martial and love Rashford but from where Im sitting his two goals against Southampton, to be fair to [Bruno] Fernandes he gets them back in it straight away with pulling a goal back, they were just proper centre-forward goals.
The movement was brilliant and it wasnt a lot of movement, maybe half a yard its brilliant.
Manchester United fan Karan has brilliant argument with Goldstein and Cundy as he claims Cavani and Zlatan are better than Harry Kane
Thats what hes done his whole career and hes still one of the best at it. Age doesnt matter anything like that nowadays. The players are in superb condition and look after themselves really well and certainly a good few years left in Cavani.
It would not surprise me if the next 18 months or so he makes that position his own.
