South Korean video game developer Krafton has announced early access to the Battlegrounds Mobile game in India. The early access version of the game went live on Google Play Store on June 17. It is available to the players in India who had pre-registered for the game months ago. Krafton has now confirmed that the early access version has garnered over 5 million downloads in just two days.
For the unversed, the Battlegrounds Mobile India is the rebranded version of PUBG Mobile in India. The government of India had banned PUBG Mobile on September 2, 2020, along with another 117 Chinese apps in the wake of the violent clashes between the Indian and the Chinese army at the Galwan Valley. The centre had alleged that the PUBG app and other banned Chinese apps including TikTok were engaged in activities that were prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity, defence and security of the country. Notably, only the mobile version of PUBG was banned because it was owned by the Chinese version Tencent while PUBG was owned by PUBG corporation. Soon after the ban was announced PUBG Corporation had taken away the publishing rights of the game from the Chinese company, Tencent.
However, in December 2020, Krafton confirmed launching the Indian version of PUBG Mobile dubbed PUBG Mobile India. The South Korean developer also ensured that the concerns raised by the Indian government will be taken care of and the security and privacy of the Indian gamers will be given utmost priority. Months later, Krafton got rid of PUBG and announced Battlegrounds Mobile India, which is the rebranded version of the app that has been named.
Now that the early access to the game has been launched, here are some key details you need to know
The beta version of Battlegrounds Mobile India can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The official version of the game has not been announced yet but users can access the game by joining the beta program. Kraft has said that it will open the slots later today as well so if the site shows that the beta program is full, you can try after a few hours.
To download the beta version of Battlegrounds Mobile India, you will have to first visit the Google Play Store and then to the testing page of Battlegrounds Mobile India. When you open the link, you will find a button that has Become a tester written on it. Click on it.
If you have already installed the Battlegrounds Mobile India app, you will receive an update to the app. If you dont have the app, download it from Google Play Store and wait for the update to arrive. Once the download is complete, you can log in play the game. You can uninstall the beta version and switch to the public version if and when that is available. Make sure you only download the game from the Google Play Store option that has been shared on its verified social pages and the official website.
The game is currently in its beta mode during which Krafton will fix the bugs and glitches that the early testers will encounter. Only after optimising the game as per feedback, Krafton will roll out the public version of the app. The South Korean developer might launch the public version of the app in the coming weeks.
Players who have already laid their hands on the early access version of the game have noticed a lot of similarities between PUBG and Battlegrounds Mobile. The similarities were inevitable as the game is only the rebranded version of PUBG Mobile. The in-game components like maps, weapons and outfits are similar to what we have already seen in PUBG.
The Battlegrounds Mobile game is believed to have the same user interface same gameplay options as before, including battle royale, team deathmatch and more.
PUBG Mobile players can also transfer their data to Battlegrounds Mobile if they use the same login credentials to login to Battlegrounds. So basically, if you log in through the same Facebook, Twitter or Google Play account, you would be able to send your unlocked weapons and outfits and in-game purchases you have made in the previous game.
As far as the differences are concerned, Krafton has tried to make the game less violent than the original PUBG Mobile. Instead of red blood, the players will shed leaves and green blood. No words such as Kill has been used. The moniker has been replaced by the word Finish. The app will also send you repeated warnings if you play the game for too long. The game will ask whether you are 18 years of age before you sign in. But there is no other way to cross-check even if the person is lying about his age.
Battlegrounds Mobile India will run on smartphones running Android 5.1.1 or above. The device should have a minimum RAM of 2GB to run the game.
