Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 26) A student pilot died after an aircraft crashed in waters off La Union on Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed.
In an advisory, the Philippine Coast Guard said authorities recovered the body of the 25-year-old student pilot reported to be a native of Pampanga after his plane crashed in the vicinity of Caba town.
He was immediately brought to the Caba Municipal Health Office where he was declared dead by the attending physician, the PCG said in its initial report.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed the incident in a separate statement. It noted the student pilot carrying the Tecnam P-2010 plane was conducting a solo cross-country flight.
According to the flight plan filed by the school, the flight originated from Iba Airport in the province of Zambales, en route to La Union Airport and Lingayen Airport, then back to Iba Airport, CAAP said.
The civil aviation agency added the body of the pilot was retrieved by residents near the crash site.
Investigations on the incident and the possible cause of the crash are still ongoing.
