KOTA KINABALU: Sabah STAR has denied a digital poster depicting pictures of its president supporting Israel in the current conflict with Hamas.
The poster appeared in the Facebook account of one Danny Lukas Jr, purportedly quoting Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and a party member Philip Among in support of Israels action against Hamas.
Sabah STAR denies the accusation in the strongest terms, its information chief Jeffrey Kumin said, adding that they suspect someone is trying to sabotage the party and its president through the “totally mischievous and malicious” post.
To depict our president as standing behind Philip Among is another purposeful insult, he said, adding that Philip is not a leader of Sabah STAR and has no role in the decision making body of the party.
He said several police reports have been lodged by the party.
“We appeal to the police to carry out a thorough investigation into those behind such posts. We want the culprits behind this mischievous malice to be exposed and brought to justice as soon as possible, he added in a statement here on Sunday (May 16).
Kumin said the party does not make any decision on international issues which is handled by the Foreign Ministry.
Kumin said Sabah STAR stood firmly behind Malaysia’s stand for an immediate stop to Israeli airstrikes against the Palestinian people.
As a policy, the party stands behind the stance taken by the Malaysian Government on the issue, which has been voiced out by our Prime Minister, Kumin added.
