Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) The country tallied 6,979 new COVD-19 infections on Saturday, raising the total to 1,094,849, according to the Department of Health.
The DOH case bulletin counted 63,376 active or people currently sick, which is 5.8% of the case count. At least 94.1% of the active cases have mild symptoms, 2% have no symptoms, 1.6% have severe symptoms, 1.2% are in critical condition, and 1.04% are moderate.
The death toll also jumped to 18,269 or 1.67% of the case tally after 170 more people lost their lives to the disease. It is the fourth day in a row this week that there have more more than 100 new deaths listed per day. However, the DOH noted that 122 of the newly added fatalities were previously reported as recoveries.
Meanwhile, 10,179 more patients recovered, pushing the survivor count to 1,013,204, equivalent to 92.5% of the COVID-19 total. The department said it deleted 15 duplicates from the count, including 13 survivors.
