Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 6) – The country logged 6,637 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the Department of Health’s latest bulletin showed.
Of the 1,080,172 total infections, 63,170 are active cases or patients who are still stick. The DOH added that 94.3% are experiencing mild symptoms, 1.9% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are critical, 1.6% are in severe condition, and 1.03% only have moderate symptoms.
The DOH said the low number of new cases recorded can be attributed to fewer samples received by laboratories on May 4.
The daily positivity rate, or the ratio of infected patients among those tested, is at 14.7% out of the 44,997 tests conducted as of May 4.
Meanwhile, 191 more patients died of COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 17,991. This is a slight increase from the 178 deaths recorded on Wednesday.
The department said 109 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The number of survivors also climbed to 999,011 after 6,091 more patients recovered. The DOH said that 20 duplicates were removed from the total tally, of which 13 were recoveries.
The DOH said all laboratories were operational on May 4, but one was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 22 new COVID-19 infections among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total case count to 18,479.
It added that the number of COVID-19 survivors among overseas Filipinos reached 11,306, after 14 more recovered. The death toll remains at 1,147, with no new deaths recorded, said DFA.
The DFA also said that 6,026 Filipino COVID-19 patients abroad are currently undergoing treatment.
The DOH earlier said that it has seen a slow decrease in new COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila over the previous weeks.
The OCTA Research Group also said the daily COVID-19 cases in the capital region is projected to drop from an average of 3,144 to 2,800 starting next week.
