Two fully vaccinated people would be incredibly safe meeting indoors but ministers are not allowing it because they want to ease restrictions for everyone at once.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, the deputy chief medical officer for England, said the country was extremely close to allowing people to meet indoors but urged us to hold the line for just a teeny bit longer.
Although England is close to the bottom of Covid-19 infections, Van-Tam added that it would be inevitable that there would be bumps in the road as restrictions were eased.
Mary Ramsay, Public Health Englands immunisation chief, suggested that vaccinated people might be given different social-distancing advice in the summer but that for now the government did not want to create privileged individuals.
