Paul Scholes predicts a bright future at Man Utd for Diogo Dalot if he can impress in pre-season training once his loan at AC Milan is over.
Dalot joined the Premier League club from Porto in 2018 when fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho was manager.
He has made 35 first-team appearances for Man Utd, but only one before he made a loan move to Milan until the end of the season.
OPINION: Man United-Milan lives up to an illustrious history
Dalot appeared against his parent club in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash against Milan on Thursday night and former Man Utd midfielder Scholes was impressed with what he saw.
“He does seem a really good lad, speaks well,” Scholes told BT Sport. “Hes done the right thing to get games at a big club. That will do him the world of good.
“He played in an unfamiliar position tonight, on that left side, but even his crossing with his left foot was brilliant. I thought defensively he did everything he had to do.
“Where does he stand now? I think hell come back at the end of the season. Pre-season will be big for him. Its time for him to really perform in those pre-season games. Put a bit of pressure on Wan-Bissaka.
“Hes different to Wan-Bissaka. We know what a great defender Wan-Bissaka is. I think hes got more quality going forward. Its just a decision for the manager and what he wants.”
Speaking after his side scored a last-gasp equaliser to snatch a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Thursday night, Stefano Pioli was delighted with Milan’s spirit.
We are working to grow and bring Milan back where we belong, Pioli said.
These are the best games in that sense, so I was happy to face a team like United.
It was a great performance and a great result, but we need another perfect performance to qualify against such a strong team.
I keep repeating to my players that Im not coaching a normal group. This an extraordinary group, the lads always give their 100 per cent in every game, they are just incredible.
Before the game we would have been very happy with a 1-1 draw. Tonight we know that we could have earned even more after this performance.
