Legendary music mogul Michael Gudinski died unexpectedly in Melbourne this week at the age of 68.
On Friday, musician Ed Sheeran paid an emotional tribute to the icon, sharing a number of photos of the pair together from his personal collection, and describing Gudinski as ‘a father figure and a mentor’.Â
Posting to Instagram, the 30-year-old singer explained that Michael was a ‘tornado of joy’ and it was ‘hard to put into words’ the impact that the businessman had on him.Â

‘It is so hard to put into words how much Michael meant to me and to all of us who knew him,’ Ed captioned the post.Â
‘Michael was a tornado of joy. You would know he arrived in the building just by hearing the chaotic bark of his, and you could feel the room get excited about the arrival of his presence.’Â
He went on to say that Michael made ‘everyone feel like they were the most important person’ and ‘he had a way with words’. Â

‘We always joked he needed a translator because of the pure speed in which he would talk in a thick growling Aussie accent,’ the singer added.Â
‘But his passion was always the thing you never needed translating, as you could feel it whenever he spoke.’Â
Ed revealed that Michael was a ‘champion of new talent’ and would play the superstar his ‘new signing’.  Â

‘He was a father figure and a mentor to me, but also we enjoyed the peaks of our touring career together in 2018, breaking the record for most tickets sold in Australia,’ he added.Â
The Shape of You singer added that he will keep ‘sharing all of [his] amazing stories’ about Michael and that he has loved ‘hearing everyone else’s this week’.Â
‘Nothing will fill the void he left in our lives, but the memories we all have of him will live on,’ he added.Â

Michael’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday morning. He leaves behind wife Sue, children Matt and Kate, and two grandchildrenÂ
The music promoter formed record company Mushroom Records at just 20 years old, and went on to sign and launch the careers of local artists such as Kylie Minogue, who is now one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
In 1979, he established concert promoter Frontier Touring and stayed at its helm until his death.Â
