Advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara, who accused ANC MP Bongani Bongo of trying to bribe him into halting Parliament’s Eskom inquiry, says his “conscience is clear” – after Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe threw out the state’s corruption case against the former state security minister.
“Personally, I know what happened from 4 October 2017 until 10 October 2017, when I was offered a bribe and reported the incident to parliamentary officials,” Vanara told News24 on Friday, hours after Hlophe granted Bongo’s application for a discharge of the State’s case against him.
Hlophe’s ruling found that the State had failed to produce enough evidence to require a defence from Bongo – meaning he walked free without testifying or being cross-examined.
