Four people have been rescued after the small vessel they were travelling in hit a big swell and capsized at Tugela Mouth, north of Durban.

  • Four people were thrown from a small vessel at Tugela Mouth on Wednesday.
  • About halfway through the launch of the vessel, a massive swell capsized the craft.
  • All four people were treated and transported to hospital with moderate injuries.

Four people have been rescued after the small vessel they were travelling in hit a big swell and capsized at Tugela Mouth outside KwaDukuza in KwaZulu-Natal.
IPSS spokesperson Paul Herbst said the vessel was launched on Wednesday morning with four people on board.
“Unfortunately, halfway through the launch the vehicle capsized in a big swell and all four passengers were thrown off the vessel.”

Local lifeguards and a nearby fishing vessel managed to rescue the four people, who were brought back safely to shore, Herbst added.
“We are currently assessing all four passengers and will be transported them to a local hospital for further care. All four passengers sustained moderate injuries.”
