A man has been arrested and charged with theft of a vehicle after allegedly stealing a truck parked in front of a bank in Porterville in the Western Cape on Saturday.The man was able to access the vehicle because the driver left the key in the ignition.
“The truck driver informed a traffic officer who was in the vicinity of the incident. The complainant and a traffic officer started to chase the truck,” police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said.
A high-speed chase ensued and police officers from Porterville also joined the pursuit.
During his getaway, the man drove into two police vehicles.

“Two law enforcement officials were injured when the truck hit their vehicle,” Van Wyk said.
The suspect was later arrested.
He appeared in the Porterville court and was charged with theft of a vehicle on Tuesday.
Van Wyk said the suspect will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
