Say “hola” to a new crop of hennies.
RuPaul’s global reign is set to expand in 2021, as World of Wonder — the production company behind the Emmy-winning reality competition franchise — has announced Drag Race Spain season 1 is coming soon.
The series will be broadcast in North America on the WOW Presents Plus subscription streaming app on the same day as its Spanish debut on ATRESplayer PREMIUM.
“It is such an honor to welcome Spain to the Drag Racefamily, partner with Atres, and bring the fierce fabulous glamour of Spanish queens to new audiences around the world on WOW Presents Plus,” World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey said of the latest international installment in a press statement. “In these dark and challenging times we believe people need Drag Race’s joy, laughter, and heart now more than ever.”
Drag Race Spain joins the franchise’s ever-growing worldwide empire, which includes international versions of the drag pageant already airing in Thailand, Holland, Canada, Chile, and the United Kingdom, which was recently renewed for seasons 2 and 3.
Barbato, Bailey and Tom Campbell — the team behind the successful U.S. version since its 2009 launch — will executive-produce the show alongside Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios.
Bailey and Barbato also recently told EW a further “three or four” global spin-offs were in the works for the successful series.
A host, judging panel, cast, and premiere date for Drag Race Spain season 1 will be announced in the months ahead.
